audio & visual references
These are some of the music, films, and ideas that shape my software projects and black metal writing.
music
Black Cascade is a black metal project where I perform vocals as Vomentis Pestem. The name comes from a Wolves in the Throne Room album, and the band is available on Bandcamp.
The project's first album is available through a YouTube release. The self-titled second album, Black Cascade, is available through the project's YouTube channel.
The channel also includes secondary recordings from live presentations:
The featured rehearsal recording is March to The Black Monolith. There is also a Fate of All Fools rehearsal.
My main musical influences for ideas, writing, and concept include Wolves in the Throne Room, Abigail Williams, and Bosse-de-Nage. I am also writing songs for my personal black metal project, Black Singularity.
The goal is to forge or create long tempos that are eerie and evil enough to introduce the listener into a trance-like state.
visual references
For both Black Cascade and Black Singularity, I draw on film references including Heavy Metal, especially the Loc-Nar, and Twin Peaks, along with other films and visual sources.
Two of my software projects document these references directly:
LocalNar and the Loc-Nar
LocalNar's name and music notes connect the project to the Loc-Nar from Heavy Metal (1981). The repository also documents “March to The Black Monolith,” a song written for Black Cascade, and uses the film and song as metaphors for model files, verification, and controlled deletion.
ephact and Ghost in the Shell
ephact's inspiration notes document Ghost in the Shell (1995) as an influence on its approach to ephemeral workflow execution. The project uses lines from the film in its terminal splash screen and describes variation, regeneration, and resilience as its interpretation of the film's ideas.
